Program

History

The Political-Pedagogical Project of the Master Course of the Graduate Program in Communication, Federal University of Santa Maria was approved on 27.01.2004 by the Board of Education Research and Extension Committee and recommended by the Area of ??Social Science in Applied I CAPES 17.09.2005. The Graduate Program in Communication was created by the University Council on 18.02.2006 and UFSM admitted to the assembly of 08.06.2006 of Comp.

Their activities began in October 2005 with public notice for the selection of the first group that has performed the tests from December 2005 and made his first enrollment in March 2006.

Objectives

The Graduate Program in Communication UFSM aims to:

  • Increasing the performance of research groups already established in the institution for the development of approaches in the field of concentration and area of ??research lines of the program
  • Promote degrees that strengthen the skills of both the area and in HEI institution located in the region covered by UFSM
  • Optimize the use of research infrastructure already installed in UFSM, with proper integration between the various levels of training and research
  • Consolidate a culture of research in the area of ??communication at the regional level, with the participation of professors from other institutions in the region, academic activities and research proposals under the program
  • Train teachers and researchers are able to develop scientific research in the field of Communication
  • Deepen the studies related to the field of communication through the area of ??concentration in “communication media” and the lines of research “Contemporary Media and Identities” and “Media and communication strategies”, considering its characteristics and importance in relation to other graduate programs and the production of knowledge in the field
  • Meet the demand for training of teachers and researchers from universities in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul and the Southern Cone countries, developing the research potential of the region
  • Improve education qualification and training of communication, articulating the joint activities between the Undergraduate and Graduate
  • Propose actions in order to qualify articulated new teachers and create opportunities for integrated projects between universities in the region, driven by common interests of intellectual work
  • Larger exchanges with other centers in Brazil and abroad seen as excellence in the field
  • Favors the training as a Master level in the context of the public university, considering what will be the only course on the interior of the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Parana and Santa Catarina with these characteristics.
